Sophie & Jack's Summer Wedding at Kent Life, Maidstone
Sophie and Jack got married at Kent Life in Maidstone during the summer of 2022 — a warm, easy-going day from start to finish.
Kent Life is one of those venues that suits couples who want something with character. Set across 28 acres of countryside just outside Maidstone, it's got a relaxed, rustic feel with plenty of space for guests to spread out. Sophie and Jack used the Ulcombe Village Hall for their ceremony, which has a really warm, intimate atmosphere with bunting, exposed beams, and natural daylight.
I started the morning with Sophie and her bridesmaids at a nearby Airbnb before heading over to Kent Life to photograph Jack and the guests arriving. The ceremony was one of those brilliant, emotional ones, Jack was emotional as Sophie started walking down the aisle, and I was positioned right at the front to catch that whole sequence. Those unscripted reactions are exactly why I shoot the way I do. No direction, no posing, just real moments as they happen.
After the ceremony, they came back down the aisle absolutely buzzing, and we went straight into confetti on the pathway outside. The rest of the afternoon was completely relaxed, guests spread out across the grounds, drinks in the sunshine, and Sophie and Jack took some time together for a laid-back portrait session in the golden light without being dragged away from their day for hours.
By the evening, the energy completely shifted. The DJ had the dance floor packed and the whole place had that festival-wedding atmosphere that Kent Life does so well. Below is a selection of my favourite photographs from throughout the day.
Natural, documentary wedding photography at Kent Life, Maidstone
Kent Life is a venue that works perfectly with my approach. There's enough space and variety that moments happen naturally throughout the day without needing to manufacture anything. The grounds give you options for portraits without pulling you away from your guests for long, and the indoor spaces have enough character and light that the ceremony and reception photographs look great without any additional setup. If you're planning your wedding at Kent Life and want a photographer who'll stay in the background and let you enjoy the day, I'd love to hear from you.
