Hayley & Max

Hackney Town Hall Wedding Photographer | London

Hayley and Max got married at Hackney Town Hall in East London, with the reception and party afterwards at Studio Jones a short distance away in Hackney. Hackney Town Hall is a Grade II listed 1930s Art Deco building, and after a multi-million pound refurbishment a few years back it's now one of the best ceremony venues in London. It's got five different ceremony and reception spaces across the building, from the original wood-panelled Council Chamber and Committee Rooms with their period chandeliers, to the two modern glass-roofed atria, to the grand Assembly Hall with its curved staircases and art deco finish. The iconic front steps are a brilliant spot for confetti shots, and the marble interiors and art deco lighting make for really clean backdrops throughout. After the ceremony we moved round to Studio Jones, an 8,000 sq ft industrial blank-canvas space run by the Jones & Sons restaurant group, on the top floor of a former factory next to Hackney Downs station. With original exposed beams, distressed wooden floorboards and skylights flooding the space with light, it's the kind of venue that does a lot of the visual work for you. Hayley and Max had their wedding breakfast, speeches and party there.

A Hackney Town Hall and Studio Jones wedding is about as London as it gets. The art deco interiors at the Town Hall, confetti on the iconic front steps, the walk through East London, and the industrial blank canvas of Studio Jones all combine into a day that's properly urban and properly distinctive. Documentary photography fits this kind of wedding perfectly because the venues and the city do most of the visual work, and the job is just to follow the day and the people. I work across Kent, London and the South East, and I love getting into the city for weddings like this one. If you're planning a Hackney Town Hall wedding, a Studio Jones reception, or anywhere in East London and want a photographer who'll stay in the background, I'd love to hear from you.
