Goodnestone Park Wedding Photographer – Ben & Jo
Ben and Jo got married at Goodnestone Park just outside Canterbury, a Grade II listed Palladian country house built in 1704 and set within 15 acres of award-winning gardens and parkland. Goodnestone is the family seat of Lord and Lady FitzWalter and has one of the more interesting histories of any Kent wedding venue, with Jane Austen a regular visitor to the estate through her brother Edward, who lived here. The double wedding in Pride and Prejudice was reportedly inspired by a wedding in the estate's own church, and more recently the house has also been used as a filming location for Downton Abbey. There are several ceremony options, from a traditional church service at the 12th century Church of the Holy Cross a short walk through the walled gardens, to civil ceremonies inside the house or within the Orangery marquee. The gardens next to the house are ideal for drinks and canapés, and the combination of the Palladian façade, the formal gardens, the woodland, and the surrounding parkland gives you a huge range of backdrops for portraits without having to travel anywhere. If you want grandeur without fuss, Goodnestone is hard to beat.
Natural, documentary wedding photography at Goodnestone Park
Goodnestone Park is a dream venue for documentary wedding photography. The Palladian house, the walled gardens, the ancient arboretum, the village church and the Orangery marquee all sit within a short walk of each other, so the day flows naturally from one setting to the next without ever feeling rushed. The sheer amount of history baked into the place gives photography a real sense of occasion, and the grounds are good enough that you don't need to stage anything. Guests tend to spread out across the gardens during drinks and speeches, which suits a documentary approach perfectly. If you're planning your wedding at Goodnestone Park and want a photographer who'll stay in the background and capture the day as it unfolds, I'd love to hear from you.
