Winters Barns Wedding Photographer, Canterbury

Winters Barns sits in quiet countryside a short drive from Canterbury, and I’m proud to be one of the venue’s recommended photographers. I’ve photographed plenty of weddings here over the years, in every kind of weather, so I know how to make the most of the venue whatever the day throws at you.

About the venue

The venue is built around restored 18th-century barns, with gardens and open fields all around. It works just as well for small, intimate weddings as it does for bigger celebrations, and there’s accommodation on site for the wedding party, so you can get ready, get married and party without leaving the venue. It’s a lovely mix of rustic and modern, and the team are great at keeping everything running smoothly.

Ceremonies at Winters Barns

You can choose between the main barn and the garden. Inside, the barn has a warm feel, with old wooden beams and fairy lights overhead, and it’s ideal on a grey day. Outside, the garden gives you green, open surroundings and soft natural light. Either way, the confetti walk back down the aisle is always a highlight.

Getting ready on site

As couples can get ready at the venue, I can capture the whole morning without any travelling, from the nerves and the laughter to the final touches before the ceremony, and then head straight into the barn.

Whatever the weather

Kent weather doesn’t always play ball, and Winters Barns copes with it well. On Rhys and Hannah’s day we had heavy rain, but a break in the clouds gave us group photos outside and a rainbow over the fields for some of my favourite portraits. Storm clouds over the countryside can make for some really dramatic shots.

Sunset and night portraits

On a clear evening, the fields around the barns are perfect for a quick sunset walk. After dark, the gardens are lit up with fairy lights, and I’ll take you out for a few minutes of night portraits before the dancing starts.

The party

Once the band or DJ starts, the barn turns into a proper party and the dancefloor fills up fast.
