During some rare downtime from shooting weddings this weekend I got together with one of my best mates, Michael Lambeth, to photograph a few portraits of him before he got rid of famous ginger beard. It was nice to slow down and try a few new techniques before the wedding season shoots back to life in the next couple of months. With this shot I wanted to give it a 2/3 tone look so the red in his beard was really prominent. In terms of lighting to achieve the look I used a soft box to the right of him (45 degree's), set my camera on a 10 second countdown and quickly ran in front of him to my left with a giant gold reflector to give his face a kind of warm glow. For this years weddings i'm going to be shooting similar portraits with the groom which I recon will give a strong timeless/classic feel to parts of the wedding album. It would be great to hear your thoughts on the portrait :)
