One of my favourite parts of the wedding day, once all the pressures and energy of the ceremony and the running around are over and everyone is sipping their champagne I like to take aside the bride for a few moments to catch a few classic portrait shots. I love the look of the Canon 85mm 1.2 ii lens and although its built like a tank and shaped like a grape fruit it renders the most amazing shots if you catch it correctly at its widest aperture. Below is a shot of Nikki I shot this summer in the grounds of St Augustines at Westgate on Sea...a beautiful grade II listed building with lots of lush green garden surroundings that were great for some stunning backdrops :) James Davies Wedding Photography
The details...
Its not until you are involved in the preparation of a wedding that you appreciate how much thought and little details go into making the day so unique and personalised for the Bride and Groom. As a photographer it is my duty on the day to identify the little details and photograph them in the most creative way possible....basically putting my own spin on things to give them an ethereal look. For this shot I focused just on the pink rose, I remember seeing it and thinking how sharp the petals looked.....I had to centralise and isolate it to give it power and presence (you can only imagine how long the bouquet took to make), the whole photographing process took just a few seconds but its one of my favourite detail shots of 2015 :)

One of my favourite times of year...that period just before Xmas Day...not just to shoot weddings but to reflect on the year as a whole as everyone starts to relax a bit and head back to their hometowns to see their families and meet up in the old stomping grounds (pubs). Meeting old friends and reminiscing whilst looking forward to the year ahead. I spent this afternoon on a brilliant little wedding portrait shoot in Broadstairs, the mid winter light was beautiful, casting warm glows to the side of the bride to be's dress & hair :)
